Google Redesign 992 Emoji

Google announced that it has redesigned the 992 emoji design to make it more universal. This new emoji design will come with the release of Android 12.
However, Google says that the new emoji will be available on older versions of Android on apps that support Appcompat.

Not only that, emojis will also be featured in several Google -owned services such as Gmail, Chrome OS, Google Chat, and YouTube Live Chat this month.

This change makes emojis easier to understand at a glance for more people.

For example, Emoji pie, like the classic American pumpkin pie. Such a shape is common in Americans, but not in Britain, its design more resembling a tart than a traditional cake. This is what makes Google polish emojis universally around the world.

In other cases, Google has designed emojis with a bolder look that helps them remember them even when displayed in small sizes.

The croissant and bacon emoji will now shine more, while the scissors have a sharp edge. Vehicles such as cars and taxis are also rated to attract more attention.

Then the bikini emoji that finally no longer looks like it’s being worn by an invisible person, and the face mask emoji now shows a face with open eyes.

Google says it made this change to reflect the fact that masks have become a universal way to show kindness to others rather than a symbol of someone who is sick.

It is not uncommon for companies to redesign emojis like these, either to correct inaccuracies or to reflect changing cultural assumptions about how they are used.

Last year, Apple made a similar change to the mask emoji to show a smiling face under the mask, and also changed its syringe emoji to be more appropriate as a vaccine symbol.

In 2019, they even updated the abacus emakji after people pointed out problems with the old design. And don’t forget the redesign of Google’s burger and beer emojis in response to the protests in 2017.
