This is Qualcomm's secret weapon to challenge Apple M1

Qualcomm Chief Executive Officer Cristiano Amon has a big plan to use the Apple M1. He is proud that he can beat Apple's superior chip performance for laptops.
Reported by Reuters, Sunday (4/7/2021) Amon is confident Qualcomm can create the best processor in the world, by designing a better chip than the Apple M1. Amon's secret weapon to defeat Apple is Nuvia, which they have for USD 1.4 billion.

In fact, it is a person behind Nuvia, founded by three former Apple engineers whose expertise is a chip design and is involved in the Apple Series System Design process on the chip (SOC).

The three founders of Nuvia are now joining Qualcomm, and focusing on expanding chips for user -class computers. Although Qualcomm does not rule out the possibility of obtaining a chip license for the data center.

The presence of these three people makes Qualcomm believe that it can release an arm chip for laptops starting in 2022, a chip that uses design from Nuvia.

Not only that, Amon also believes that Qualcomm's experience in making modems and 5G processors for mobile phones will provide a better user experience for laptops, one of which is to provide 5G connections on chips for laptops.

5G connections, or other cellular connections, are not made by Apple in Mac with M1 chips. But don't forget, they have an iPad Pro with a 5G M1 chip.

It seems that Qualcomm wants to increase dominance in the chip world from just chips to mobile to chips for laptops. But this step certainly requires a lot of additional efforts from Qualcomm.

Microsoft did use Qualcomm -made chips at Surface Pro X, which was on display at the Windows 11 launch event.

Intel will not remain silent on this Qualcomm step. They prepare a hybrid CPU like ARM chip. It is a processor that uses a fast core combination with the power saving core to improve the performance and efficiency of the processor.
