Japan made history by breaking the world's fastest internet speed to 319 Terabits per second.
Previously, the highest internet speed was 178 Terabits per second. Meanwhile, researchers at the National Institute of Information and Communication Technology (NICT) in Japan nearly doubled. The internet world record is broken.
Quoted from Vice, Sunday (18/7/2021) NICT tests internet speeds in the laboratory using the most advanced fiber optic technology.
NICT relies on 3,001 km of existing fiber optic cable infrastructure. Later, the infrastructure is supported by a number of other technologies.
One of the technologies in question is an optical cable consisting of four cores (4-core) that allows fast data transmission from single-core optical fiber.
“4-cores with standard cladding diameters are attractive for early use of long-distance fiber links (space division multiplexing), as they are compatible with conventional cabling infrastructure and are expected to have mechanics comparable to single core fibers,” NICT said.
For information, the fastest internet speed currently felt by the community is by using the 5G network. However, 5G internet speeds ‘only’ touch 1-10 Giga per second.
While the internet speed of the NICT test is impressive, of course the question is, what is a super fast connection of up to 319 Terabits per second for what?
