The opening ceremony of the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games was held at the Olympic Stadium, Tokyo on Friday (23/7) night. Apparently the opening ceremony was accompanied by music from the legendary Japanese-made video game.
The music of this video game accompanies the parade of a contingent of athletes from countries participating in the Tokyo 2020 Olympics. Although the opening ceremony was not attended by spectators, the musical accompaniment of this video game made netizens excited on social media.
The first music played was the main song from the Dragon Quest game. After that, followed by hits from Final Fantasy, Monster Hunter, NieR, Sonic the Hedgehog, Chrono Trigger, eFootball (new version of Pro Evolution Soccer), and more, as quoted from Engadget, Saturday (24/7 / 2021).
Listening to the music played at the Olympic Stadium, players and netizens were instantly excited on Twitter. Final Fantasy, Kingdom Hearts and Nier even appeared on Twitter trending topics during the opening ceremony of the Tokyo 2020 Olympics.
Unfortunately, some music from other iconic Japanese games was not played at this opening ceremony. For example, music from Nintendo’s three biggest gaming franchises - Pokemon, Mario and Zelda - wasn’t present on the list of music played last night.
But at least it was very pleasant to see the organizers of the Tokyo 2020 Olympics highlight the rich history of video games in Japan at this opening ceremony.
