Xiaomi aspires to be the leader of the Chinese market

Having overtaken Apple as the world’s largest mobile phone vendor for Q2 2021, Xiaomi now aspires to be the leader of the mobile phone market in China.
In an interview, the CEO of Xiaomi Group noted that currently only 30% of people buy mobile phones online, while the remaining 70% still choose to buy mobile phones offline.

For this reason, since 2016 Xiaomi started increasing its offline sales by opening an offline store. He also believes that Xiaomi has the same efficiency, both in online and offline stores.

Every month, according to Lei Jun, Xiaomi opens 1,000 new offline stores and by the end of June Xiaomi already has 8,000 offline stores. The existence of an offline store makes him believe that Xiaomi will be able to dominate the mobile phone market in China.

"Currently all regions in the country (China) are covered by Xiaomi stores, and this number will continue to increase. I feel if all offline stores are closed, we have a chance to reach the first position in China's market share," Lei Jun said.

Xiaomi's largest market share growth is reported to come from a number of developing countries in South America, the Middle East, and Africa, which are said to have played a major role in Xiaomi's growth.

Previously reported, Xiaomi overtook Apple and became the second largest mobile phone vendor in the world in the second quarter of 2021. According to data from research firm Canalys, this Chinese vendor experienced a growth jump of 83% compared to Q2 2020.

With this surge, Xiaomi’s market share has now increased to 17% and puts it in second place globally. The top position is still held by Samsung with a market share of 19%.

Meanwhile, Apple dropped to third place with a 14%market share. The top five positions are completed by two mobile phone vendors from China, namely Oppo and Vivo, which each have a 10%market share.
