As quoted by detikINET from CNBC, MacKenzie and Melinda worked together to give away prizes worth USD 40 million to 4 organizations that promote gender equality. Each organization is meant to earn USD 10 million each.
The organization was selected from 550 applicants. They focus on gender equality in technology, higher education and minority communities.
“We can break the pattern of history and advance gender equality, but first we have to be committed to helping organizations, such as the one that received the award today, that is ready to advance women and young women,” Melinda said.
MacKenzie Scott added that the organization that received the donation was a strong team to help women grow their lives as well as their careers.
Melinda has long been known as a philanthropist with Bill Gates at the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. Now that the divorce has been announced, maybe she can contribute to her own territory.
Meanwhile, MacKenzie Scott, one of the richest women in the world, has recently been very active in philanthropic activities. In mid -June, it announced a contribution of USD 2.7 billion.
The money was distributed to 286 organizations with significant social impact, from arts, equality, educational organizations to those dealing with domestic violence.
That was MacKenzie Scott’s third largest contribution in less than a year. He became wealthy after his divorce from Bezos, in which MacKenzie was entitled to a 4% stake in Amazon.
