Players Threaten to Boycott Pokemon Go, What's Up?

Pokemon Go still has a lot of fans in various countries. But some famous Pokemon Go players suddenly threatened to boycott the game made by Niantic. Why?
Apparently players are protesting Niantic’s plan to remove some security features in Pokemon Go, which was introduced at the start of last year’s pandemic. One of these features serves to make it easier for players to visit Pokestops and fight in the gym without having to leave home.

The Pokemon Go community on Reddit then wrote an open letter asking Niantic to stop its plans. Several well -known players, influencers, and YouTubers also shared this letter on social media.

“Dear Niantic, Community and Creators would like to voice our concern and frustration over the recent changes to the reduction of Pokestop interaction in Pokemon Go,” the letter read.

"While the radius of Pokestop / POI interactions has increased due to an unprecedented global pandemic, the flow of impact from the changes in the game is having a much greater positive impact on society."

In addition to making it easier for players to play Pokemon Go from home, the letter also argues that increasing interaction radiation has other benefits such as making it easier for disabled players to continue playing comfortably and reducing crowds in public places.

On social media, players have called for a boycott of Pokemon Go and Niantic via the hashtags #BoycottNiantic and #PokemonNoDay. They urge other players not to play Pokemon Go or buy anything from the store.

In addition to calls for a boycott via social media, Pokemon Go players also launched an online petition asking Niantic to change its plans. So far the petition has been signed by more than 165,000 people.

Niantic first announced its plans to cancel the pandemic -era feature in June. Game developers argue that there are now a lot of places that open up after the locking ends so players can gather again to play Pokemon Go together.

These changes take place in the United States and New Zealand in late July and will be rolled out gradually in other countries. In addition to reducing the radius of interaction, this change will also eliminate some of the bonuses that were also introduced at the beginning of the pandemic.
