Maybe there are still many who think that the system on a chip (SoC) -- or so-called processor -- from MediaTek has inferior performance compared to the Snapdragon chip from Qualcomm.
However, the Dimensity 700 used in the Redmi Note 10 5G proves otherwise. Although it is intended for entry-level 5G phones, it does not mean that the Dimensity 700 has mediocre performance.
In fact, in our tests we proved the opposite. More details can be seen in the following Redmi Note 10 5G review.
Design
The design of the Redmi Note 10 5G is very familiar to its other brethren in the Redmi Note 10 line, similar with slight differences. For example on the screen, there is a punch hole circle for the front camera in the middle, and the rear camera module is rectangular in the top left.
The difference is, the Redmi Note 10 5G is labeled '5G' on the back of the body, of course because that is the mainstay feature of this phone.
The power button on the right side of the phone also doubles as a fingerprint sensor, then at the top of this button there is a volume control. The SIM card slot is on the left side of the phone, while below it is the USB-C port and speaker hole, and the 3.5mm port for audio is on the top.
Screen
The screen used is IPS type, measuring 6.5 inches with FHD + resolution. The refresh rate is 90Hz and it features AdaptiveSync. It must be admitted, if you are used to Super AMOLED or OLED type screens, it is difficult to return to the IPS panel.
However, the panel used in the Redmi Note 10 5G also has decent quality, mainly because it is supported by a 90Hz refresh rate, which makes animations feel smoother.
Performance
The flagship feature of the Redmi Note 10 5G is of course 5G, which is supported through the MediaTek Dimensity 700 system on a chip (SoC).
The unit we tested was the highest variant of the Redmi Note 10 5G, with 8GB RAM and 128GB storage. Standard daily use such as using social media, chatting, browsing, watching videos can be done without any problems.
Our synthetic tests were carried out using 3DMark, namely through the Sling Shot and Wild Life tests, also using AnTuTu v9. The scores obtained can be seen in the image below.
For its gaming capabilities, we tried the Genshin Impact game with the lowest settings. The frame rate obtained is in the 30s fps range. Then for the PUBG Mobile game in HD settings with a high refresh rate, the game can be played very smoothly.
Battery
The battery embedded in the Redmi Note 10 5G has a capacity of 5,000 mAh. For normal use, it can easily be used for a full day without the need to recharge.
Even the next day, charging a new battery needs to be done before the afternoon. Normal use is certainly done without playing games intensively.
Charging the battery is done with a maximum power of 18W with the charger included in the sales package. From an empty state, it takes about 2 hours to charge the battery to 100%.
5G connectivity on the Redmi Note 10 5G supports various bands, including the 5G band that is so far used in the world.
Camera
For a cheap phone, the camera capabilities of the Redmi Note 10 5G are quite capable. Especially in bright conditions. The resulting detail is good, the colors are quite accurate with saturation and contrast a little too high.
There are three rear cameras, but none of them uses an ultrawide lens. The main camera has a 48MP resolution, a 2MP macro camera, and a 2MP depth sensor. While the front camera is 8MP.
Our Opinion
In our opinion, the Redmi Note 10 5G is a 'future proof' phone at a relatively affordable price for the cheapest variant.
The point is that the Redmi Note 10 5G will be a suitable phone for those of you who don't change phones often. So when the 5G network has expanded its coverage in Indonesia, you can still enjoy the network without the need to change your cellphone.
Even so, its capabilities are quite capable for its price class. Because the performance of the Dimensity 700 used is not shy. Even for heavy games like Genshin Impact -- even on the lowest settings.
Two things that we think are lacking from the Redmi Note 10 5G are the use of an IPS panel on the screen, as well as the absence of a camera with an ultrawide lens. Both of these features are on the Redmi Note 10S, which doesn't have 5G capabilities.
So users have to choose between a 5G connection or a Super AMOLED panel and an ultrawide lens. Which one do you choose?
