CEOs of tech companies such as Apple, Amazon and Microsoft were summoned to appear before US president Joe Biden. What do you want to talk about?
The CEOs called in include Apple CEO Tim Cook, Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella, and Amazon CEO Andy Jassy. They will face President Biden on Wednesday (25/8) tomorrow at the White House.
It is not yet certain what they will discuss, but most likely it will be related to cyber security in important infrastructure, such as the banking, energy, and water utility sectors.
This meeting appears to have been held after a number of major cyber and ransomware attacks took place in the US. So far there has been ransomware that has crippled a fuel distribution network and a large-scale meat producer.
This raises the notion that similar cyber attacks can paralyze other important infrastructure sectors. In addition, the SolarWinds hack affected many US government agencies, including officials in the US Department of Homeland Security.
The Biden administration has previously stated its efforts to improve cybersecurity in US federal agencies. Including a $20 billion budget to secure US infrastructure from cyberattacks.
So far, only Amazon CEO Jassy has confirmed that he will go to the White House to fulfill the invitation. However, other CEOs have not confirmed it. In addition to the CEOs of Apple, Microsoft, and Amazon, there are also CEOs of Google, IBM, and J.P. Morgan Chase was reportedly invited.
