Research: People who wake up early have happier lives

Some people like to wake up early, some prefer to stay up late and wake up later. Who is more productive and also happier?

In general, those who wake up early are considered to be more successful and complete more tasks. Many articles say that if people wake up earlier, their productivity will be higher. But the reality is clearly not always so.

Not to mention that many people are not really both but in the middle. 60% of people are actually a combination of staying up late and getting up early.

Another factor to consider is that some people tend to be more active and productive at the start of the day while some just 'function' better at night.

In various studies, women tend to wake up early while men tend to stay up late. Associated with age, when teenagers are approaching adulthood, people tend to stay up late and it increasingly leads to getting up early as they get older.

Now about who is happier, some research does show there is a relationship between people who like to wake up early with higher levels of happiness.

For example, a study of hundreds of medical students by Dokuz Eylul University in Turkey revealed that respondents who said they preferred to get up early tended to score higher on happiness tests.

Another study by the University of Leipzig concluded that early risers are more satisfied with their lives, thereby minimizing mental problems. While those who like to stay up late have a higher tendency to experience symptoms of depression.

However, of course the research is not absolute. Both types of people are formed by various factors such as family conditions, professional roles and routines. People can change from one type to another. "It may be possible to change it in a deliberate way," said researchers from the University of Warwick.
