Coocaa S3U Review, Shiny Picture & Digital TV Ability

The Coocaa S3U has recently been released on the market. This television (TV) offers a homemade operating system called Coolita OS, but does this feature make this device interesting to look at?

We've been testing Coocaa S3U for a few weeks. It turns out that the interesting thing that we feel is not even the operating system.

There are other advantages that make this new Coocaa TV worthy of consideration for those of you who want to welcome the era of Digital TV broadcasts in the country. Everything is summarized in the following brief review:

Design

Coocaa S3U carries a modern minimalist yet stylish design. Coocaa only installed the frame at the bottom of the silver color which was made to match the support legs.

Combines nicely with a panel that has a thin bezel, making it look so pleasing to the eye. Will beautify the interior in the family living room.

Thanks to its slim body, users can place this TV in various corners of the room. The weight is light enough that it can be assembled by one person. The assembly is also very easy, just install one screw on each support leg.

Coocaa provides a fairly complete port, from TV tuner, USB 2.0, LAN to HDMI. All ports were placed on the left side of the back. Although the position is slightly to the middle, because the size of this TV is not too big, hands can still reach these ports easily.

This TV is equipped with a modern remote, meaning that there are not many buttons given. The size is comfortable in the hand.

One plus point is the YouTube shortcut button. Many smart televisions don't have this button on their remote, only Netflix and Prime Video are less watched.

Screen

The Coocaa S3U has a 32-inch screen with a resolution of 1366 x 768 pixels. The bezels around the screen are thin and black in color, providing a wider perspective.

This TV uses a DLED (Direct View LED) panel that presents a shiny picture with good detail for devices in its class. The viewing angle of this TV is also quite wide, so you don't need to sit in the middle to get the best viewing experience.

Coocaa provides a choice of seven picture modes, namely Standard, Vivid, Eco, Game, Movie, Sports and User. As a result, users can adjust the picture mode to the content being watched. And to select the picture mode can be accessed easily via the side menu button on the remote.

Digital TV

This TV already supports DVB-T2, meaning it can capture digital broadcasts without the need to install a set top box (STB) again. Because we are in an area surrounded by tall buildings, we use an outdoor antenna that has a booster.

There are 45 digital TV channels available. The picture quality is very good like watching streaming video, and of course ant-free. Even some channels provide audio options, Mpeg or Dolby Digital.

Audio

This television is equipped with two 10W high-power single speakers equipped with Coocaa Sound AES (Audio Enhanced Surround) technology, and Dolby Audio effects. The resulting sound quality is not jarring, but does not break when set to high volume. Also available audio modes, such as music, movies, sports and others.

For Dolby Audio not available by default, this feature is active when playing supported content. The Dolby Audio experience comes when playing movies on Netflix and Disney+ Hotstar via Chromecast.

One of the main selling points of this television is the Coolita OS. This is an operating system created by Coocaa for its entry-level television line.

Coolita is a Linux Kernel based WebOS Lite. Offers smooth performance even if the TV set is powered by 512 MB RAM.

We are quite curious to try out this OS when it was introduced in early September. Unfortunately the experience when using it has not been maximized.

Coolita OS provides a very simple interface even compared to Android TV. For those who have just adopted a smart TV, it will not be difficult to use.

All apps and settings menus are shown in thumbnails at the bottom, not so big they don't cover the screen. When highlighting an app's thumbnail, a pop-up menu will appear showing recommended content. But this recommendation pop-up is only available in a few applications, one of which is YouTube.

Coolita OS provides an app store. Interestingly the applications available in it can be enjoyed without the need to install.

It's just that currently the available applications are not so attractive. We had time to access the available movie streaming applications, but the content was old school.

The only app we use is YouTube. In fact, we use Chromecast more often on this TV.

Hopefully Coocaa will increase the number of applications that are widely used by the community, such as Netflix, Disney+ Hotstar, Viu, Vidio and others.

We had time to use the Miracast feature, connecting the TV with the cellphone was easy. This feature is suitable for displaying photos and videos stored in the HP gallery. Because when used on video streaming services, the image does not appear, only the sound can be enjoyed.

Our opinion

Coocaa S3U provides eye satisfaction through excellent image quality and pleasing to the eye. The audio quality also doesn't disappoint, but most importantly it can capture digital TV broadcasts without the need to install an STB.

Coolita OS has potential as long as Coocaa is willing to add popular apps. So far the user interface provided is simple and easy to use even for novice smart TV users.
