Leaked Exynos 2200, Fast GPU but Mediocre CPU

The Samsung Exynos 2200 is an interesting system on a chip (SoC) to look forward to, because it uses a GPU designed by AMD. Its performance is slightly revealed from the leaked benchmark results that have recently circulated.

This leak comes from someone on Weibo who claims to be holding a sample Galaxy S22+ unit with the model number SM-S906B. From the open source drivers installed on the phone, the GPU in the Exynos 2200 is known as the 'Samsung Voyager EVT1'.

He ran GeekBench 5 to test the device, but unfortunately the test scores were not impressive. The score for the single core test is only 1,073 and the multi core is 3,389, not high. Even slightly lower than the score obtained by Qualcomm's Snapdragon 888.

However, maybe this low score is caused by the absence of optimization from the driver side, considering that the Galaxy S22 (supposedly) has only been released in early 2022. However, the CPU configuration on the Exynos 2200 is similar to the Exynos 2100, which uses cores that are divided into three clusters.

The fast cores are ARM Cortex-X2 with a speed of 2.59GHz, three Cortex-A710 cores at 2.5GHz, and four energy-efficient Cortex-A510 cores at 1.73GHz. Of course, this clock speed is not final and will still be tinkered with by Samsung until it is released.

If the CPU is not impressive, it's a different story with the GPU mRDNA. From the results of the initial benchmark test, the score obtained is higher, the Mali GPU is the fastest at the moment, also 50% faster than the GPU in Apple's A14 Bionic.

Previously, there were also leaks comparing the Exynos 2200 GPU with Snapdragon 888 using 3DMark Wild Life. The Exynos 2200 shows an impressive score of 8134. This score is higher than the Snapdragon 888, maybe even higher than Qualcomm's upcoming flagship SoC, the Snapdragon 895.

The Exynos 2200 is also said to be a challenger to the Apple M1 because it will be used in various types of devices. Initially, this chip will be used in laptops with the Windows operating system, but later it will be used in various other devices.
