WhatsApp Releases Chat Transfer Feature from iPhone to Android

WhatsApp has finally released a chat history transfer feature from iOS to Android. But now this feature can only be sampled on Samsung phones.

This feature was first announced at the Galaxy Unpacked event and was initially only available for the Galaxy Z Fold 3 and Galaxy Z Flip 3. But now the feature has been extended to include all Samsung phones running Android 10 and above.

In its blog, WhatsApp said the feature of moving chats between operating systems had long been requested by users. With this feature, users don't have to worry about losing their WhatsApp chat history when switching phones from iPhone to Android.

"One of the most requested features is the one that can transfer your chat history from one operating system to another when you want to switch phones," WhatsApp said in its announcement.

"Together with operating system and device manufacturers, we have worked hard to design this feature to be used safely and reliably," he continued.

Before this feature existed, WhatsApp users who wanted to move their chat history between operating systems had to rely on third-party services. But services like this are sometimes not free and are quite vulnerable because they are not official services from WhatsApp.

With this new feature, users can move a variety of data, including account information, profile photos, individual chats, group chats, chat history, media and settings. But call history and display name can't be moved.

In the transfer process, this data will not be sent to WhatsApp and will be transferred directly between devices. Therefore users must prepare a USB-C to Lightning cable and install the Samsung SmartSwitch app.

Currently, the feature is only available for Samsung phones running Android 10 and above and will be available to more Android devices in the near future.

It is not yet known when the reverse feature, moving chat from Android to iOS, will be rolled out. But WhatsApp is currently testing this feature in beta.
