YouTube Test Download Videos in Web Browser

So far, users who want to download and save videos from YouTube must use the help of third parties. But now YouTube is reportedly testing an official way to download videos in a web browser.

This test will last until October 19, 2021. To be able to be part of this test users can view YouTube's experimental features page where those who are eligible can participate especially for premium subscribers. However, not all YouTube Premium subscribers can experience this feature.

In testing, Google says browsers that can support this feature are the latest versions of Chrome, Edge and Opera.

When a user plays a video on YouTube, the user will see an option to download the video with a down arrow icon. When clicked YouTube will download the video and once finished the user can watch the Downloads list which is located in the three-lined section on the lower left side of the screen.

However, The Verge said they found no way to download videos and watch them outside of the supported browser. So this is the way to watch YouTube videos offline.

It should be noted, because this feature is still in the testing phase so there may still be some problems. One of them may be that the video cannot be downloaded. However, when The Verge next retested, the feature worked as expected.
