6 Reasons People Believe Climate Change Is A Hoax, When It's Real

Climate change is a real thing, but in fact there are still some people who believe that climate change is a hoax. There are many reasons, but at least 6 reasons below are the most used.

Launching the official website of the University of Hull, Saturday (10/23/2021), the reasons for those who believe that climate change is a hoax are as follows:

1. Climate change is part of a natural cycle

There is such a thing as a natural cycle but not all events can be answered with that reason.

"Another problem with natural cycles is that people are looking at sample sizes that are too small," said Mike Rogerson, senior lecturer in Earth System Science at the University of Hull.

"A cold winter in the US doesn't deny climate change. Have you checked how hot it is in Asia at the same time? We need to look globally and longer than just the last few years."

Just look at the annual average of ground surface temperatures around the world. From 1910 to 2010 the fact is always increasing.

2. Climate change is normal, life will adapt

The fact is that the pace of climate change is placing great ecological pressure on our environment. Insects, small mammals, and fish they all have nowhere to go.

"Even humans are stuck in uninhabitable areas. You're just going to try to sell your house if it's in a floodplain predicted in the future. If you can't get out of your mortgage, you'll be stuck there with the oaks and squirrels, " said Mike.

3. Why does it still rain often?

The answer to this one is very simple. The sun heats the planet. Heat evaporates water. Steam collects as clouds. Rain falls from the clouds. In short: the hotter, the wetter.

Recent research from the University of Hull on Libya's weather patterns over the last 10,000 years has proven this, with rainfall increasing with the increase in average annual temperatures.

4. Models used to measure climate change are unreliable

The models are experimental but they are the same models that predict daily weather -- as is often the case. Actually the first climate prediction came in 1901 from a scientist who wanted to assess how much coal he had to burn to start a vineyard in Sweden.

With just a few scribbles on a piece of paper, he predicts how burning different levels of CO2 will heat the planet over time. Amazingly, and worryingly, his predictions are in line with today's measurements.

5. No scientific consensus

"This hasn't been true for more than a decade. The problem is, people get their climate information from the media, not scientists. And the media, in an attempt to appear impartial, often put a climate scientist and a denier to debate their point. But that doesn't mean that the scientific community is split 50/50 on climate change. It's actually more like 97/3," Mike said.

6. Big conspiracy

Whether it's scientists lying to get big research funding, the illuminati or aliens, there are dozens of bizarre conspiracies as to why climate change reports are so unbelievable.

"The idea that climate scientists must have a huge conspiracy WhatsApp group or an underground lair doesn't make sense," laughs Mike.
