Catching Jumbo Fish Similar to Crocodiles Makes It Shocking

Crocodile fish aka alligator fish or also in English is called alligator gar, making a scene in the Kansas area, United States. Because this is the first time an alligator gar has appeared there.

The fish was caught by angler Danny Lee Smith on the Neosho River, according to information from the Kansas Department of Wildlife and Parks (KDWP). It is about 1.35 meters long and weighs in the range of 17 kilograms.

"These guys weren't supposed to be in that river. The shape of the head was shocking," said Danny, who already knew he had caught an unusual species because of his shape.

Experts have not been able to guess how the fish, which is also often dubbed as a living fossil, got to the Neosho river. "We're considering genetic identification. This will tell us whether the fish came from an existing population in another state," said Jeff Koch of KDWP.

There is also the possibility that there are parties who let it go because it grew too big. It is illegal to release alligator fish of this kind or other species into rivers and can be a hazard to other fish, either by disease or by prey.

Alligator fish have existed before the early humans Homo erectus or more than 1.8 million years ago. However, National Geographic calls this carnivorous fish even 157 million years ago.

Its long snout and body shape make it called like a crocodile. While the teeth are sharp. The fishermen in the waters of the Mississippi River, United States have a special name for the alligator fish, 'Pirate' in the river. Alligator fish become the main enemy for fishermen. The reason this fish prey on other fish very quickly.

The fishermen there then tried to destroy the fish in various ways. Be it by being shot, speared, or even by throwing sticks of dynamite at a herd of alligator fish.
