Drift Problems on Nintendo Switch Joy-Con Can't Be Eliminated

One of the problems that Nintendo Switch users often complain about is drifting in the Joy-Con controller. According to Nintendo, this problem will remain forever.

For information, drift is when the controller provides movement input even though the user does not touch the controller. Nintendo has so far not opened up about this issue, and even refused to answer whether this issue exists in the latest Nintendo Switch OLED.

But now they have finally spoken about the drifting problem, and from the answers, it can be assumed that this problem will still occur even if Nintendo continues to improve the quality of the Joy-Con.

So far, Nintendo has continued to improve the quality of the Joy-Con. The controller used in the 2019 Switch Lite is not the same as the 2017 Switch. However, drift problems will still appear along with the duration of use, like a car tire.

"Yes, for example like a car tire that wears out as the car continues to wear, because they are constantly rubbing against the road as it turns. So on the same basis, we asked ourselves, how can we increase the durability, and not only that, but how do we do that?" can operability and durability go hand in hand? This is something we're trying to solve," said Ko Shiota, GM Technology Development Division at Nintendo.

According to him, the joystick in the Switch OLED is the latest version that has all the improvements compared to the previous joystick. Meanwhile, Toru Yamashita, Deputy GM Technology Development Division at Nintendo, said that every time you repair the Joy-Con on the previous generation Switch, the components used are the latest ones.

"The analog-stick component has been continuously improved since it was first launched and we continue to develop improvements," said Yamashita.
