Google Meet Hosts Can Lock The Noisy Participants' Microphones

Google launched a new feature in its video conferencing service, Google Meet, which allows hosts or moderators or hosts to lock microphones and videos to certain participants who may make noise or create chaos during the meeting.

When the microphone and camera are turned off, participants cannot turn it back on themselves, because they must get permission from the moderator to reactivate the microphone and camera.

Google explains that for users of the Meet app on Android and iOS devices that don't support this new feature, the user will automatically be removed from the call once a moderator activates the feature.

And if the user tries to join the call, it will be prompted to update the Google Meet app first.

In early 2021, Google released a tool which allows moderators to mute every participant in a call at once. In addition, this technology giant has also begun to launch support for the direct translation taxi feature in various languages.

Google says this feature can help participants communicate better by translating spoken language to text in another language.

Live subtitles are initially available in beta and support English encounters translated into Spanish, French, Portuguese and German.

This feature is available in meetings hosted by Google Workspace Business Plus, Enterprise Standard, Enterprise Plus, EducationPlus, and Teaching & Learning Upgrade users.

Along with live subtitles, Google is also rolling out an animated video background feature for Google Meet users on Android.

Previously, this feature was only available to Google Meet users on iOS and desktop. This feature allows users to replace the background with six Google-made videos such as classrooms, parties, beaches, and more.
