The Story of a Drop Out Student Becomes a Computer Owner with USD 53.3 billion

Failing to go to college but having a high business sense and love to work hard made this man embrace great glory in the computer world.

Michael Dell was born February 23, 1965 in Houston, Texas, United States. He was born into a well-to-do family of Jewish immigrants. Just like the majority of other leaders in the world of technology, Michael has been interested in tinkering with computers since childhood. He bought a calculator when he was 7 years old.

His business talent has been seen since childhood. At the age of 12, Dell worked part time as a waiter in a Chinese restaurant. Stepping on high school, Michael sells newspapers. After graduating from high school, Michael continued his studies at the University of Texas, Austin. He created a company called PC'S Limited from his dorm room selling IBM PC computers.

He decided to drop out of college and focus on growing his business after getting an investment of USD 300 thousand from his family. Dell played a major role in the PC computer revolution in the 1990s. In 1985, PC'S Limited created its first computer called Turbo PC and sold it for USD 795.

PC'S Limited advertises Turbo PC in various media and sells it directly to consumers. Consumers can also choose various hardware options on the computer purchased. Michael's company was a huge success and grossed up to USD 73 million in its first year of operation.

In 1988, PC'S Limited changed its name to Dell Computer Corporation and began to expand globally. Michael was treading on his heyday as an accomplished computer businessman.

Dell is slowly becoming a giant computer company. June 1988, Dell's market capitalization grew to USD 80 million from the original USD 30 million. In 1992, Fortune magazine included Dell Computer Corporation in its list of the world's 500 largest companies. And Michael is the youngest CEO of a Fortune 500 company.

From 1997 to 2004, Dell enjoyed steady growth and captured competitor's market share. Until 2001, Dell was number one in terms of quality and service according to a Consumer Reports report. Dell surpassed Compaq as the world's largest PC computer manufacturer in 1999. But in 2002, Compaq, which merged with HP, overtook Dell again.

Dell married a Texas woman named Susan Lynn Lieberman in 1989. They have 4 children and are far from scandal or gossip.

Michael Dell became one of the richest people in the world. His latest net worth is estimated at USD 53.3 billion.

Dell continues to enter the ranks of the giants in the world computer industry. Especially with the purchase of technology giant EMC worth USD 67 billion, in which the two companies merged to become Dell Technologies. Michael Dell is currently still the Chairman and CEO of Dell Technologies.

being with his family is one of Dell's greatest joys. This family is quite secretive, like many other wealthy families in the United States.

Dell is also quite involved in philanthropy with his wife through the Michael and Susan Dell Foundation. This foundation is engaged in education, health and family matters.

Dell has quite a few luxury properties like the house above. Among other things, he drives a Porsche Carrera GT which is priced at USD 440 thousand.

Of course not all of Dell's efforts were successful. Dell has not had much success with smartphones and tablet PCs. On January 11, 2013, Michael Dell stated that Dell would become a private company and would no longer sell shares to the public. With a purchase value of 24.4 billion, which makes them out of the stock market. F
