Change Name to Meta, Facebook Wants to Open a Physical Store

Meta, previously known as Facebook, is apparently considering opening its first physical store. The plan to open a physical store has reportedly started before the change of Facebook's name to Meta.

According to a New York Times report, discussions about opening a physical Meta store had started last year, but this plan is still not finalized and there is a possibility that the project will be cancelled.

If this physical store is opened, Meta will design it as an experience store to introduce tools developed by the Reality Labs division, rather than a typical retail store.

Despite being known as a social media company, Meta/Facebook does sell some hardware. These include the Oculus Quest virtual reality headset (which will be renamed Meta Quest), the Portal smart screen for video calls, and the Stories smart glasses developed with Ray-Ban.

Based on documents seen by the New York Times, Meta envisions a store with a modern, minimalist design and aesthetic, with unobtrusive branding placement.

Facebook is also considering several names for the store, including Facebook Hub, Facebook Commons, Facebook Innovations, Facebook Reality Store, and From Facebook. They finally chose the name Facebook Store, but it is likely that this name will be changed considering the company name has changed.

If it materializes, Meta will open its first physical store in Burlingame, California, which is home to the Reality Labs division. But it's not impossible that Meta will build similar stores in more countries.
