The spread of fake news about the COVID-19 vaccine has always been Facebook's focus during this pandemic. Now there is a new policy regarding this issue.
Now the social network created by Mark Zuckeberg has expanded the policy and its COVID-19 vaccination efforts to include children after the United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA) allowed the use of the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine for young children. 5 to 11 years.
In the coming weeks, Facebook will send reminders in English and Spanish in feeds to users in the US that a COVID-19 vaccine is now available for children.
The reminder will also include a link that will help users find the nearest vaccination site.
Facebook said its fight against vaccine misinformation is part of an ongoing effort in partnership with the CDC, WHO and other health authorities.
They promised to continue to update their policies and ban any new claims about a COVID-19 vaccine for children that would appear in the future.
The social media, which now operates under its parent company Meta, said it had removed more than 20 million content from Facebook and Instagram since the start of the pandemic.
As of August 2021, Facebook had also banned 3,000 accounts, groups, and pages for repeatedly violating its policies on misinformation.
