Former Facebook Employee Urges Zuckerberg to Leave

Former Facebook Product Manager and whistleblower Frances Haugen recently leaked internal documents that exposed a range of the company's problems. Now Haugen is urging Mark Zuckerberg to step down from his position as CEO.

This was revealed by Haugen in a discussion at the Web Summit event which took place in Lisbon, Portugal. Haugen said Zuckerberg would rather step down so the company could change rather than focus on rebranding.

"I think the company probably won't change if (Mark Zuckerberg) stays as CEO," Haugen said.

"Perhaps this is an opportunity for someone else to take the reins... Facebook will probably get stronger with people focusing more on security."

Zuckerberg himself holds strong control in the company thanks to Facebook's dual share structure. This structure gives Zuckerberg a majority of the voting shares and makes it difficult for members of the board of directors or other shareholders to remove him.

On the same occasion, Haugen also mentioned the announcement of the change of Facebook's name to Meta. According to him, the rebranding effort doesn't make sense because Facebook still has a lot of security issues to work on.

"Facebook is again choosing expansion and new areas rather than sticking to what they've been doing," said Haugen.

Zuckerberg announced the new name Facebook last week. The name Meta was chosen to show the company's focus on developing the metaverse, a virtual world concept that is considered to be the future of the internet.

But the pioneers who had entered the world of the metaverse first criticized Facebook's rebranding efforts. According to them, Facebook just wants to take advantage of the hype of a concept they didn't create to distract the public from its negative image.
