Spooky! Facebook's Metaverse World May Lose Reality

The universe, or the metaverse world initiated by Facebook, where people can interact virtually as if they were real, continues to draw criticism. Even this expert is worried that later, the metaverse world will obscure reality and confuse.

The concern was raised by Louis Rosenberg, a computer expert and developer of the first virtual reality system at the Air Force Research Laboratory. He said Meta, the replacement company for Facebook, could create a dystopian world that looks like real.

"I am worried about the use of augmented reality by providers of this powerful platform, which will control the infrastructure," he said, as quoted by us from Futurism.

One of the concerns is, there are third parties who can provide paid services, where users can see data from other users in the metaverse world. For example, there are writings on the heads of virtual participants that provide information about them from existing data.

"And they use it to label individuals with words like alcoholics or immigrants, racists or atheists and maybe Democrats or Republicans. This could easily be designed to echo political differences, even fuel hatred," he said.

Besides, the Metaverse could have made reality disappear by creating a system that people couldn't easily escape from in the future.

The reason is, it is possible that this metaverse world is growing rapidly and has an impact on every aspect of life and it is quite impossible to avoid it. Similar concerns have been echoed by other experts.

Dr David Reid, Professor of AI and Spatial Computing at Liverpool Hope University said that while he believes the Metaverse has the potential to bring some interesting stuff, it also risks drastic deepening of existing issues such as data privacy issues and cyberbullying.

Even more worrying, he argues that this technological development will blur the line between virtual and reality. Whoever becomes the ruler of this reality will have access to an unprecedented amount of data. Meaning: countless powers.

"The market for it is huge. Whoever controls it will basically have control over your entire reality," said Dr Reid of the risks of the metaverse world.
