Controversial is definitely the right word for this device because its purpose is to kill yourself instantly. The creator of the suicide machine named Sarco Suicide Pods also spoke about his horrendous findings.
The Sarco engine was developed by the non-profit organization Exit International, which campaigns for legal suicide. Its founder, Dr Philip Nitschke, who is known by the nickname Dr Death, calls this machine portable and can be placed anywhere the user wants to die.
When operated, the oxygen level inside the capsule will drop below a critical point. The suicide process takes less than a minute and death occurs due to hypoxia so that the user dies relatively peacefully and experiences no pain.
This machine is practical because it can be created simply with a 3D printer. Then, the user can put it anywhere they want to die.
Medical institutions in Switzerland have given the green light to this suicide machine. In that country, assisted suicide has been legal since 1942. But Dr Philip from Australia wants his machine to go global.
"There are a lot of people who are interested. We talk to a lot of people who want to end their lives. There are some who, if they had a choice, would choose something like this," he was quoted as saying by the Independent, Thursday (12/23/2021).
"We want a system where people can end their lives with minimal technical assistance. You take them to a zero oxygen environment and they die peacefully," added the man who now lives in Amsterdam.
"Generally it's done with the help of plastic bags. But people don't like the idea and they certainly don't like how it looks," continued Dr Death.
So the Sarco engine was made, which was designed futuristic and could be operated from the inside. But not just anyone can do it because it has to go through several stages. The code to operate is also unique and will be provided by Exit International.
Currently the machine is only in prototype form and even though there is a green light, it still requires further research to be used by residents.
Of course there is criticism that comes against the controversial suicide machine. For example, its futuristic form is considered a glorification of suicide. There were also criticisms from religious institutions who considered Dr Philip's actions to be very inappropriate.
