Sad, LG Closes Android Developer Site Later This Month

In early 2021, LG officially confirmed that it would close its mobile phone business. LG's withdrawal from the mobile phone business was finally announced after the rumors and speculations that circulated in the previous few months.

After the announcement, LG will still be selling existing units of the phone. In addition, service and software support will still be available to users in the coming period, depending on the region.

The latest news says that the support will end soon because LG announced that it will turn off the 'bootloader unlock' program for LG devices.

The bootloader on an Android smartphone is a device that loads the system. Most Android devices lock the bootloader to prevent installation of unauthorized software by default. However, the bootloader can also be unlocked to allow that.

Android users have enjoyed the freedom to play around with their phones. Developers, in particular, have managed to achieve some incredible feats such as extending the life of the phone well beyond what OEMs specify thanks to 'custom Roms' and third-party updates.

LG is always helping its developers innovate by providing an efficient process for unlocking their bootloaders via the bootloader unlock button.

Now, LG will be shutting down the service effective December 31, 2021 as reported by us from Gizmochina.

Closing the service will put LG smartphone users looking to extend the life of their device in a difficult position. However, it is hoped that some talented developers in the Android community will find a solution to unlock the bootloader of this LG device.
