Sony Patents PlayStation Controller Design for HP

Sony patented a new PlayStation controller design that seems intended for mobile devices such as cellphones or cellphones. This patent was released by the Japanese division of Sony Interactive Entertainment.

From the design scheme in the patent, it can be seen that a controller whose design is more similar to the DualShock controller used on the PlayStation 4, rather than the DualSense controller on the PlayStation 5, as quoted from Video Game Chronicles, Tuesday (30/11/2021).

The control sections on both sides are separated by a fairly long blank space. If in the center of the DualShock controller there is a touch screen, in this design scheme that area is replaced with an empty part that may be used to insert a cellphone.

In the description, Sony says that this controller has handles on the left and right that gamers can use to position their hands. There is also an axle section that can be tilted and detects the direction and amount of tilt of the shaft section.

Actually, the existing PS4 and PS5 controllers can now be connected to cellphones or other mobile devices using Bluetooth. But this patent indicates that Sony's new controller will have a gamepad design that integrates with Razer Kishi-style phones.

Sony's decision to patent a controller specifically for mobile devices isn't really that surprising. Not long ago Sony's plans to expand into the world of mobile gaming were revealed after they opened a vacancy for the position of Head of Mobile.

Not only that, SIE President Jim Ryan also said that some of Sony's iconic games will be brought to the mobile realm starting the current business year which will end in March 2022.

"PlayStation has a large and diverse IP catalog that can transition to smartphone gaming and complement our AAA games or game live services," Ryan said in May.

"We're exploring the mobile market with some great PlayStation franchises, so stay tuned for more news."
