India's Corona Craze Again Triggered by Omicron

The mutation of the Corona virus must always be watched out for. The latest example can be seen in the case of Corona India. This country is experiencing a spike in Corona cases due to the Omicron variant.

The spike in cases is said to have nearly eightfold for additional daily cases since the start of this year. On Monday (10/1) India's health authorities reported that there were 179,723 cases of Corona in the last 24 hours in its territory.

With this spike, the total number of Corona cases in India has now reached 35.7 million. This figure is recorded as the second highest total number of Corona cases in the world after the United States (US).

Quoted from Reuters, Tuesday (11/1/2022) most of the new Corona cases were detected in big cities such as New Delhi, Mumbai and Kolkata. It is said that the Omicron variant has dominated replacing the Delta variant.

In the latest data Monday (10/1) local time, Indian health authorities also reported an additional 146 deaths in a day. So that a total of 483,936 deaths from Corona have now been recorded in India since the pandemic hit in early 2020. However, it is still the US and Brazil that have recorded more deaths than India.

Indian government officials have privately said they are working on the assumption that daily coronavirus cases will surpass the record 414,000 cases. This is based on several things, including based on the situation in several countries including the US which has just recorded a spike of 1 million cases in a day.

In recent days, hundreds of health workers and frontline workers, including the police, have been infected with Corona. Media reports also say hundreds of Indian parliamentary staff have tested positive for Corona ahead of a budget discussion meeting on February 1, 2022.
