The New Mac Pro Doesn't Use Apple's M2 Chip

After a number of Mac devices were released using the Apple M1 chip (and various variants), now only the Mac Pro has not used Apple Silicon.

According to @dylandkt, Apple will complete the transition from using Intel processors to Apple Silicon chips in Q4 2022. That is through the Mac Pro which no longer uses Intel's x86 processors and switches to Apple Silicon.

But reportedly, the upcoming Mac Pro will not use the successor to the M2 chip, but will still use a variation of the M1 chip, as Apple did on the M1 Pro and M1 Max.

According to him, the M1 variant used in the Mac Pro will have a much higher number of cores than the M1 Max, as quoted by Techspot, Wednesday (19/1/2022).

"The transition to Apple Silicon will be completed in Q4 2022. The Mac Pro will be the last device to be replaced," Dylan wrote on his Twitter account.

However, Dylan did not mention the iMac 27, which currently does not have an Apple Silicon version. Currently, the iMac with the new M1 chip is available in a 24-inch screen variant.

For information, the M1 Max has 10 CPU cores, and the M1 used in the Mac Pro will have far more cores. Previously, Mark Gurman from Bloomberg said that the M1 used by the Mac Pro will have twice the number of cores and quadruple the M1 Max.

Meanwhile, Apple is also said to have prepared a 3nm Apple Silicon with 40 cores prepared for 2023.

Dylan also said that in 2022 Apple will release a new MacBook Air, the 10th generation iPad with 5G that uses the Apple A14 SoC. The cheapest version of the iPad will only be redesigned in 2023.
