Well, Isolated Antarctica Finally Has COVID-19

Polar researchers in Antarctica have contracted the Corona virus. It is unknown how these researchers who were fully vaccinated and lived isolated from this civilization caught and contracted it

Quoted from the BBC, at least 16 of the 25 staff on duty at the research station Belgium's Princess Elisabeth Polar Station have contracted the SARS-CoV-2 virus.

The disease caught on despite all the staff passing multiple PCR tests, being quarantined and living in one of the most remote places in the world. A total of 25 investigators are reported to have been fully vaccinated and one person has received a booster shot.

Before leaving for the research station, they underwent a PCR test in Belgium two hours before flying to South Africa. In Cape Town they were quarantined for 10 days and underwent another PCR test. Further tests are needed on their way to Antarctica, and they are still conducting the final test five days after that.

One person tested positive seven days after arriving at the station on December 14. The person was placed in isolation, but test results revealed two other people had contracted the virus.

The three immediately left the station on December 23, but the virus continued to spread. Presumably, this is the Omicron variant as it is known to cause 99% of infections in South Africa.

There were two emergency doctors at the research station. They do not allow any new arrivals until it is confirmed that the virus has disappeared and the entire station and its occupants are "clean" of COVID-19.
