Two years into a pandemic, Bill Gates was inspired to write his thoughts in his latest book, "How to Prevent the Next Pandemic". He believes that the COVID-19 pandemic will be the last pandemic in the world.
"I have written a book about how we can make sure the world never suffers through something like COVID-19 again. I believe that COVID-19 could be the last pandemic," Bill Gates said as quoted from his personal blog, Gates Notes.
He realized that belief in an end to the pandemic might be hard to believe, given that the whole world is still trying to control COVID.
"The past two years have caused an incredible amount of hardship around the world, and it's not easy to feel optimistic when you are enduring the misery that so many people are going through," he said.
"But every time I see the suffering caused by COVID, every time I read about the latest death toll or hear about someone who has lost their job, I immediately think: we can't be like this anymore."
In his latest book, Gates outlines specific steps that can be taken to not only stop future pandemics, but in the process, provide better health care for everyone around the world.
Gates outlines what can be learned from this pandemic, the innovations needed to save lives, and the new tools needed to stop pathogens early.
"The world now understands how seriously we must take pandemics, and the momentum is on our side. No one needs to be convinced that infectious diseases can kill millions or kill the global economy. If we make the right choices and investments, we can make COVID-19 as the last pandemic," he concluded.
The book "How to Prevent the Next Pandemic" will be released on May 3, 2022, and is published by Knopf in the US and Penguin Random House internationally.
