7,000 Twitter employees await fate under Elon Musk

Nothing wrong if Twitter employees are currently feeling anxious. Elon Musk has become the new owner and there will certainly be a change for those employees.

Twitter has about 7,000 employees worldwide. So far, the employees seem comfortable there. But since Elon Musk came, the anxiety began to be felt.

The CEO of Twitter, Parag Agrawal, didn't seem to calm employees down. "When this deal is done, we don't know which direction the platform is going," he told employees.

It takes between 3 to 6 months for the process of transferring ownership of Twitter to Elon Musk. Until then, Twitter operations will continue as usual. It is also confirmed that there have been no layoffs.

However, Agrawal did not dare to ensure that layoffs would not occur when Elon Musk took the lead. The last time Twitter held a layoff was in 2016 when 9% of Twitter employees were affected.

Anxiety has been expressed even by Twitter officials about the fate of the company. Edward Perez as Director of Product Management in his tweet said that the company will face uncertainty and discomfort.

"Most of us firmly believe that Twitter is more than just a technology platform, we have a deep responsibility to society. I hope our new owners understand that," he wrote.

One possibility is a change in WFO policy, where Twitter employees can now be very flexible in coming to work, even fully WFH. Elon Musk could change that if you look at his track record. At Tesla itself, employees have long been required to enter the office.
