The night of Lailatulqadar is the most awaited night in the month of Ramadan. The night of Lailatulqadar itself is a night full of glory and is a night that is better than 1,000 months. This is in accordance with the Word of Allah SWT in the Qur'an Surah Al-Qadr verses 1-5 which means:
"Indeed We sent down the Qur'an on the night of Lailatulqadar, do you know what the night of Lailatulqadar is? The night of Lailatulqadar is better than a thousand months, on that night the angels and Gabriel descended with the permission of Allah, their Lord (to carry) all affairs, be safe that night until dawn."
Regarding when the night of Lailatulqadar will arrive, there is one hadith that explains, namely:
"Look for the night of Lailatulqadar in (odd nights) in the last ten days of Ramadan." (Narrated by Bukhari & Muslim).
If it is understood, indeed no one knows exactly when the night of Lailatulqadar will come except Allah SWT. However, the signs of the night of Lailatulqadar can be studied based on the existing traditions. Well, here are some characteristics of the night of Lailatulqadar based on several hadiths.
Atmosphere and Calm Air
One of the characteristics of the night of Lailatulqadar is the atmosphere and the air that feels calm. This refers to a hadith whose source is from Ibn Abbas RA, that the Prophet Muhammad SAW said:
"Lailatulqadar is a peaceful and calm night, not too hot and not too cold, the next morning the sun rises with a weak red light."
In addition, there is another hadith that also explains the serenity on the night of Lailatulqadar, namely the Hadith At Thabrani in Al-Mu'jam Al Kabir volume 22, where the sanad of this hadith is the hasan sanad. The hadith reads:
"Lailatulqadar is a clear night, not hot, not cold, no clouds, no rain, no strong winds and nothing is thrown that night with stars (meteor throws for Satan)."
Dim Sunlight
The next characteristic is dim or weak sunlight. The meaning of dim here means bright but not bright the next day. This characteristic is present in the hadith whose source is from Ubay bin Ka'ab RA, that the Prophet Muhammad SAW said:
"The next day at night, the sun rises up high without a tray of light." (HR. Muslim).
Sometimes Carried in a Dream
The next characteristic of the night of Lailatulqadar is that it is sometimes carried away in dreams. This is sometimes experienced by some of the companions of the Prophet Muhammad. The hadith for this reads
"From the companions of Ibn Umar radiyallahu'anhuma that some of the companions of the Prophet saw were shown the night of Qadar in a dream (by Allah SWT) in the last 7 nights (Ramadan) then the Messenger of Allah said, "I saw that your dream (about Lailatulqadar) occurred on 7 the last night. So whoever wants to look for it, then look for it in the last 7 nights," (Muslim)
Feel the Pleasure of Worship
One of the characteristics that can also be recognized from the night of Lailatulqadar is feeling the pleasure of worship. The pleasure of worship is obtained through peace of mind, pleasure when praying to Allah SWT, which is different from other nights.
Although there are many narrations that show that the night of Lailatulqadar has signs that may be felt, it does not mean that everyone can realize and know it. In other words, knowing the sign of the night of Lailatulqadar is not something that everyone can definitely feel.
Imam Thobari said: "That (signs of Lailatul Qadar) is not necessary, a Muslim can have this glorious night and he does not see or hear anything from these signs".
Wallahu a'lam bisshawab.
