Instagram Tries the Favorite Post Pin Feature on Profile

Instagram is testing a new feature called 'pins' which will allow users to pin their favorite posts on their profiles. This feature is still in the testing phase and is already available to a handful of users.

"We are currently testing a new feature that will allow people to display posts on their profiles," said a Meta spokesperson, as quoted by TechCrunch, Thursday (28/4/2022).

Users who can already access this feature will see the 'Pin to your profile' option when opening the three-dot menu next to the post. If selected, the pinned post will appear at the top of the profile grid.

It looks like Instagram has been developing this feature in the last few months, considering that reverse engineer Alessandro Paluzzi discovered it in January. Then a month later, Paluzzi revealed that Instagram users would be able to pin up to three posts on their profile.

The option to pin specific posts on the profile will certainly be very useful for users who want to show off their favorite posts whose position may have sunk in the grid. Likewise for creators who frequently upload content but want to highlight one specific post.

Currently Instagram users have the option to pin Stories on their profile using the Highlights feature, but this new feature will extend that capability to posts in the feed.

Several other social media already have similar features, such as Twitter with the 'Pin to your profile' feature which allows users to place one of their tweets at the top of the profile.

The trial of this new feature comes shortly after Instagram announced it was testing a new feature called Templates. This feature allows users to easily create Reels content using existing video formats.
