There will be 4 eclipses in 2022, only one will occur before Eid

This year, there will be four eclipses, both solar and lunar eclipses. One of them happened before Eid. Can it be seen?

Astronomy lovers who are afraid to miss witnessing this phenomenon, please mark the following dates on your calendar.

1. Partial Solar Eclipse April 30/1 May 2022

A partial solar eclipse is an astronomical phenomenon when the Earth, Moon, and Sun lie in a straight line, the surface of the Sun observed from Earth is only partially covered by the Moon.

This is because the Moon's shadow that falls on the Earth's surface is only a penumbral/false shadow, while the core umbra shadow is outside the Earth's surface.

The area covered by the Moon's umbral shadow will experience a Partial Solar Eclipse, while the area covered by the Moon's umbral shadow will experience a Total Solar Eclipse.

This partial solar eclipse will peak on May 1, 2022 at around 03.41 WIB. It was also stated that this eclipse was the 66th eclipse of 71 eclipses in the Saros 119 cycle. The maximum magnitude (width) of this eclipse reached 63.89% of the angular diameter of the Sun.

However, this eclipse can only be seen in the Southeast Pacific and parts of South America.

This partial solar eclipse coincides with the conjunction at the end of the month of Ramadan 1443 H, so that the new moon may be seen when the sun sets, after the eclipse.

2. Partial Solar Eclipse (25 October 2022)

After that, a partial solar eclipse will occur again on October 25, 2022, but also cannot be seen directly.

This eclipse can only be seen in Europe (except Portugal and Southern Spain), Russia, Western Tunisia, Algeria, Egypt, Somalia, Sudan, Middle East, Greenland, Iceland, Central Asia, India and Sri Lanka.

Meanwhile, according to the predictions of the researchers, the new solar eclipse will be witnessed in 2023. The eclipse that occurred was a hybrid solar eclipse on April 20, 2023 which is said to coincide with the end of Ramadan 1444 H.

3. Total Lunar Eclipse (May 16, 2022)

Another eclipse that will occur this year is a total lunar eclipse twice.

A lunar eclipse is the third condition when the Earth is between the Moon and the Sun, so that the Moon does not get sunlight.

The first total lunar eclipse will occur on May 16, 2022, to coincide with Vesak Day 2565 Buddhist Era.

This eclipse can be seen only in North America, South America, Europe, the Middle East and Africa, and New Zealand.

The eclipse that occurred was a hybrid solar eclipse on April 20, 2023, which was said to coincide with the end of Ramadan 1444 H.

4. Total Lunar Eclipse (8 November 2022)

The second total lunar eclipse will occur on November 8, 2022, which will occur between 15.02 WIB and 20.56 WIB.

This time, the total lunar eclipse can be witnessed live.
