These Countries Have No Maghrib, What About The Fate Of The People Who Are Fasting There?

Azan Magrib is a marker of sunset and is the time for Muslims to break their fast. But, unfortunately, not all places, especially countries, call to prayer. Usually because the majority of the population is not Muslim.

Countries located on the north side of the Earth are examples of countries that do not call to prayer, such as Norway and Finland.

This is because the country experiences up to 24 hours of sunshine a day during the peak of summer, around mid-April to July.

In Ramadan 2022, the sun in Finland shines for 23 hours, while in Iceland the sun shines for 22 hours. Then, how do the fasting people there know when it is time to break the fast?

Three Solutions from Ulama

In this regard, the ulema say there is a leniency in the Shari'a for Muslims who observe fasting in countries such as Finland and Iceland or countries with extreme natural phenomena. There are at least three solutions offered by the scholars and follow one of them.

First, people who break their fast in countries with extreme natural phenomena, they can follow the sunset time in the nearest country. Second, join iftar time in the nearest Muslim-majority country. Third, follow the time of Saudi Arabia.

So, if you want to keep following iftar local time, is it okay?
