What is the Size of the Human Brain? Women and Men Are Different!

The brain is a vital organ in the human body and other living things. Consisting of several parts, the brain has many tasks and functions to support life.

It is known that there are four parts of the brain in humans, namely the cerebrum, cerebellum, brainstem, and neurons. All three play an important and large role. You could say that the brain is the center of other body organs, such as controlling all body functions and interpreting information from the outside world.

Human Brain Parts

The cerebrum is the largest part of the brain in its complex structure. Quoted from My Field Clinic, the cerebrum consists of the right and left. This brain function is to perform major functions such as interpreting touch, sight and hearing, speech, reasoning, emotion, learning, and fine control of movements.

Then there is the cerebellum or cerebellum which is located under the cerebrum. The function of this part of the brain is to coordinate muscle movement, including motor skills such as balance, coordination, and posture.

Meanwhile, the batak brain or brainstem is the part of the brain that functions as a relay center. It connects the cerebrum and cerebellum to the spinal cord, which carries out many automatic functions such as breathing, heart rate, body temperature, sleep and wake cycles, digestion, sneezing, coughing, vomiting, and swallowing.

While the neuron is the structure of the central nervous system that functions as a sender and carry information. This section allows different parts of the brain to communicate with each other, as well as allows the brain to communicate with different parts of the body.

Quoted from Very Well Mind, researchers estimate there are about 86 billion neurons in the human brain. Amazing!

Human Brain Size

Being the center of the universe of human life, have you ever thought about it, what size brain do you have? Compiled from Very Well Mind, the human brain has a structure similar to that of other mammals. However, what sets it apart is its size based on weight.

Regarding weight, the adult human brain weighs an average of 1300-1400 grams or 1.3--1.4 kilograms. While the length, the average adult brain has a length of about 15 centimeters.

For comparison, a newborn human baby, usually weighs about 350-400 grams. Men, on the other hand, tend to have bigger brains than women.

Generally, after taking into account overall body weight, men's brains tend to be about 100 grams larger than women's brains. Furthermore, parts of the frontal lobe and limbic cortex, areas that function in problem solving and emotion regulation, tend to be larger than in men.

In contrast, men's brains have the parietal cortex, which is the layer that processes sensory information from the five senses, and the amygdala, the part that processes memory and emotional responses, tends to be larger than women's.
