Ramadan is almost always synonymous with iconic things such as breaking the fast, hunting for breaking fast, congregational tarawih, and many more. However, the atmosphere of Ramadan in the city of Mecca may surprise you. Unlike here, this city actually looks like dead and uninhabited during the month of Ramadan. How could that be?
This was stated by Alman Mulyana, a YouTuber from Indonesia, who is now working in the Holy Land. According to his explanation, the people of Saudi Arabia have different habits during Ramadan, so the atmosphere in the city also seems to be different from usual. Curious as to what? Check out the following reviews!
Like a Dead City
According to Alman, during the day before Dzuhur, the atmosphere of Mecca looks like a dead city. There were hardly any residents to be seen on the streets, and cars only passed occasionally. Society reduces all activities and working hours. The reason is, the temperature of this city is very high so that strenuous activities are feared to interfere with worship.
"The road in the city of Mecca during the day before the time of Dzuhur is like a dead city. Especially in elite residential areas, not a single human is walking. It's like a dead city, isn't it," said Alman, quoted from his YouTube channel, Alman Mulyana.
"All work in the city of Mecca, the hours are reduced to focus on worship. That is so as not to interfere with fasting. Maybe because of the weather too. It's only 34 degrees Celsius in the morning, especially in the afternoon," he continued.
Not Worried about Crime
Uniquely, people don't seem to worry about any crime. They seem to be used to parking their vehicles on the side of the road without fear of a thief in the mirror. Everything looks safe.
Start Activities after Zuhur
When it was Dzuhur time, activities in the city of Mecca began to be active again. People flocked to the mosque to pray. After that, they just started working, opening shops, and doing various other things.
Sharing each other in the Afternoon
When the day began to fall, the community also returned to focus on preparing to break the fast. They give alms to each other. Residents don't even have to worry about fasting even if they don't have a penny because everyone will try to share and scramble to do good.
"Living in Mecca during Ramadan, if you don't have a penny, don't be afraid you can't eat. In the afternoon when we walk, there are a lot of sabilillah people who donate food, drinks, and even money," Alman continued.
Night Activities
Even though it is in the atmosphere of Ramadan, in fact the development in the city of Mecca is not being ignored. Heavy work such as building construction is still done at night because it will definitely be hard if you do it during the day. Thus, construction workers can still earn a living without worrying about being weak due to fasting. In addition to construction, various other heavy work is also carried out at night.
That's a glimpse of the atmosphere of the city of Mecca during the month of Ramadan. Although this city is known to be quite busy, its citizens still prioritize worship. All of them are compact in adjusting their activity agenda so as not to interfere with fasting. How about you, does anyone have other stories regarding worship in the Holy Land?
