The multiverse theory or the existence of several collections of universes is increasingly being discussed, especially when the Dr Strange film from Marvel will be released in the near future. In fact, scientists have been discussing the possibility of parallel worlds for a long time.
Citing Live Science, there are five popular theories that support the multiverse not impossibility. So, do we have a twin in another world?
1. Infinite universes
Scientists can't be sure what space-time looks like, but it's most likely flat and stretches indefinitely. But if space-time lasts forever, then this can repeat itself at a time due to the existence of finite particles that can be arranged in space and time.
In short, one can see finding another version of themselves, there is an infinite version of themselves. Some of these 'twins' will probably be doing what you are doing now, while others will be wearing different outfits this morning. There are also those who choose to make different decisions in life such as career matters.
2. Daughter universes
This theory explains the possibility of several universes following the theory of quantum mechanics. The 'Daughter Universes' or 'Many Worlds Theory', put forward by Hugh Everett, believes that the universe creates a 'copy' for every possible outcome of a given situation.
While in this universe you decide to continue reading this article, in another universe it may make you stop your reading activities and turn to something else.
3. Bubble universes
Based on research from Tufts University cosmologist Alexander Vilenkin, when looking at space-time as a whole, some areas of space stop bulging like the Big Bang inflated the universe. However, others will continue to grow in size. What's interesting about this theory is that other universes could have very different physical laws than ours, because they are unrelated.
4. Mathematical universes
In simple terms, the theory that was coined by Max Tegmark of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 2012 explains that the structure of mathematics can change depending on where one is located.
"I truly believe there is a universe out there that could exist independently and would continue to exist even if there were no humans," he said.
5. Parallel universes
Parallel universes or parallel worlds have been talked about quite a bit in recent times. Parallel world theory can be explained as human life and the universe simultaneously with each other.
Quantum scientists believe that every day (even every second) a parallel world is created. Surprisingly, each world is not aware of the presence of the other world and no one can be sure which world is actually real.
