The European Union (EU) has sued various technology and social media companies for offenses of using users ’personal data as well as advertising practices seen as unfair to competitors. To ensure European consumer data remains secure, the European Data Protection Regulator (EDPS) announced they are testing their own social media platforms EU Voice and EU Video.
The EU Voice platform is an alternative to Twitter with it will be a channel for European residents to connect with various government bodies. EU Voice uses the same open source code as Mastodon which became the preferred alternative platform after Twitter confirmed Elon Musk took over the platform.
Also being tested by EDPS is EU Video which is an alternative to YouTube using the open source platform PeerTube. Both platforms will not have any ads with user data will not be collected.
