Finance Ministry Rejects Telecommunication Company's Request For Majority Holding In DNB

The Finance Minister is now reported to remain with June 30 as the deadline for registration of 5G network contracts, and rejected a request from telcos seeking a majority stake in Digital Nasional Berhad (DNB).

The new report comes as an extension of what we heard last week, saying telcos want a majority stake in DNB.

According to MalayMail, the Finance Minister has informed Digi and U Mobile of this stance, and is expected to inform Celcom and Maxis this week.

Digital Nasional Berhad was established by the government to accelerate the introduction of 5G networks in Malaysia, while at the same time reducing costs to end users.

The government is ready to offer a 70% stake in DNB - which is broken down into various entities in the telecommunications industry. However, Malaysia's four largest telecommunications companies want a majority stake to enable them to shape the industry.

Currently, only Yes and TM have signed a 5G agreement with DNB.
