Google Acquires Raxium Virtual Reality Display Panel Makers Company

After canceling virtual reality and augmented reality-related projects like Google Glass and limiting support on ARCore, Google is now seen developing a new augmented reality headset earlier this year.

For this, Google has reportedly taken over a virtual reality and augmented reality display panel maker company called Raxium. The company is seen as an expert in building small -sized displays using MicroLEDs suitable for virtual, augmented and combined reality headsets.

The use of MicroLED panels is seen to help in reducing power consumption in a digital headset, but retains the color processing that is typically seen on displays that use OLED panels.

In fact, Raxium is also reportedly in the process of trying to develop these panels using the same silicon material used in the development of semiconductor components which is expected to lower the manufacturing cost of these panels.

Raxium will join the Devices & Services group at Google, presumably to help with the development of Google’s latest augmented reality project, Project Iris, which has been unveiled since earlier this year.

Google seems to expect that the use of virtual reality and augmented reality technologies will increase as new norms of work and learning are likely to take advantage of these visual technologies.
