Modern cars are like mobile computers because they have various capabilities like a smartphone in hand. Android Auto and Apple CarPlay support are among the features sought before a purchase is made for better integration while driving. But due to a lack of chip supply globally, BMW has temporarily suspended Android Auto and Apple CarPlay support on cars currently on sale.
The suspension was done because they had to change the chips used and the software could not provide support for the two features. BWM will only support both of these features through an OTA update given next June. There is currently no user reported support in the U.S., UK, France, Italy and Spain.
BWM at least informs users this feature is temporarily not supported. Tesla, meanwhile, asked customers to return to vehicle service centers to install a USB-C charging system due to a lack of chips. Meanwhile in China carmaker Ora had to offer free charging and spare parts warranty after the chip used on the infohibur system did not use the Qualcomm chip as advertised.
