New York Says Goodbye To The Last Public Telephone Booth

The New York metropolis said goodbye to its last public telephone booth last Monday. This public telephone booth that uses a ceiling coin houses two telephones and is located in Times Square. For the past eight years, the process of replacing public phone booths with LinkNYC free WiFi kiosks has been done by New York.

Currently a total of 2000 kiosks have been successfully placed around New York that not only offer free public WiFi but also come with a power plug to charge the device as well as a touch screen to get information.

This last public telephone booth will be moved to the Museum of the City of New York to be exhibited to future generations under a collection of pre-digital world equipment. Although public telephone booths are no longer offered in New York, there are still a few more privately owned telephone booths operating.
