4 Ways to Prevent Account Burglary Through Phishing

Frauds that rely on phishing are now increasingly being reported. There are many viral cases where victims lose large sums of money just by clicking on received links on WhatsApp or other messenger applications.

Cybersecurity and anti-virus company Kaspersky even detected and blocked more than 2 million phishing attacks during 2021, of which 7.70% accidentally clicked on phishing links shared by cybercriminals.

To prevent more victims from phishing attacks, Kaspersky shares easy tips that internet users can apply to protect themselves from phishing attacks.

How to prevent cybercriminals from breaking into your account via phishing:

1. Be careful with suspicious emails

The first step is to be careful when responding to suspicious emails and messages received on messenger apps.

If you have received an email, don't be in a hurry, especially what I said earlier, I'm curious, I want to click.

First, pay attention to this person you know or not. In detail how you should do to look for data or signs this is really phishing or not.

There are several things to be aware of when receiving suspicious emails or messages. For example, if you receive a message that prompts you to 'Unsubscribe' or 'Stop' you should not respond. Likewise, if you receive an email full of typos and strange characters.

2. Do not make financial transactions with public Wi-Fi

Furthermore, as much as possible do not conduct financial transactions using public Wi-Fi networks. The reason is, public Wi-Fi is usually not known for its security level and can be monitored by other people.

I hope you make online transactions are really careful. If you have to do online transactions, it's better to use tethering to your cellphone. It's private, not public.

3. Don't use the same password on multiple accounts

Finally, use complex passwords and don't use the same password for multiple accounts. Doni realizes that this last step is the most difficult because if you use a complex password, it will be difficult to remember, but if you make an easy one, it will be easy for hackers to break into it.

So what if you use a password manager, for example the one already in the browser and standalone application? Doni said the level of security also depends because browsers and applications may have security holes that can be exploited by hackers.

If, for example, cybercrime friends can penetrate the security gap, then I can get all the existing passwords. My advice is to use a password manager that plays on security.

4. Immediately change the password if you click the phishing link

If you have implemented all the steps above but suddenly caught your guard and accidentally clicked on a phishing link, Doni suggests staying calm and changing the password of the targeted account immediately.

As soon as possible go to a certain website, the original website, yes, and change the password. That's one last way to replace. If it has been replaced by the same person, you have to want to talk to the bank.
