EU Reported To Approve Legislation To Use USB-C For Phones-Apple Ends Lightning Use

The European Union is expected to agree to legislation using one form of charging for smartphones, tablets and even headphones as early as June 7 - thus making all devices sold in continental Europe use only one form of charging.

Speaking of smartphones, today the vast majority of Android phones use USB-C-based chargers, while only iPhones use Lightning-based chargers.

Discussions on approving the legislation are expected to be held for the last time next week, before it is approved and given a date for its implementation.

In addition to smartphones, the legislation is also expected to be expanded to cover laptops.

In addition, according to Reuters, the EU is also looking to come up with parallel standards for wireless charging - by 2025.
