Swaterbang, self -driving, and selfies were things that were considered fiction just 10 years ago because there were too many technological barriers. But as we already know more and more cars on the road with Level 2 self -driving capabilities and swaterbang drones are doing flights without input from humans.
Self -sailing technology took a step forward last weekend when Hyundai's HD -made LNG Prism Courage stern ship sailed 10,000 km across the Pacific Ocean without human intervention. The 122,000 -ton ship sailed from Texas to South Korea on a journey that took 33 days.
Only travel after crossing the Panama Canal to South Korea is done self -timer using the HiNAS 2.0 system developed by Hyundai. This cruise is done to see the capabilities of the system before it is marketed next year.
Unlike a typical automatic control system, HiNAS 2.0 uses a variety of sensors as well as weather information to plan the voyage. It always ensures the route is safe with 100 ships successfully dodged during the 33 -day journey. In addition it managed to reduce fuel consumption by up to 7% and reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 5%.
