iOS 16 could be Apple's way of catching up with Android

Want a phone that looks like it can be changed at will? Select Android. Maybe that's the author's answer if anyone asks, it's better Android or iPhone. At least until 1-2 years ago.

In the last few versions of iOS, Apple seems to want to catch up with Android in terms of display customization. For example in iOS 14, Apple finally allowed users to hide app icons in the App Library.

Then in iOS 14 users can also display application widgets on the home screen, so that the home screen display is a little more crowded. Not just the icons of applications installed on the phone.

Those two features have been around for a long time on Android, which may be the reason many mobile users choose Android as their primary phone. Now in iOS 16, Apple has added another customization feature, namely to change the appearance of the lockscreen.

Previously, the appearance of the iOS lock screen was very minimalist. Only the time and date information at the top, new notifications in the middle, and old notifications at the bottom. Oh yes, there is also a shortcut to the camera and a flashlight in the lower left and right corners.

While on iOS 16, users can use the new Live Wallpaper on the lock screen. Not only that, users can change the color and appearance of the clock on the lock screen. But the most interesting thing -- at least for iOS users -- is that users can also display widgets on the lock screen.

So far, there are several applications that support widgets on the iOS lock screen, such as weather, calendar, alarms, Activity Rings (from Apple Watch), and several other widgets.

Well, in this lock screen widget section, Android doesn't even make it a default feature. In the past, in some early versions of Android, this feature did exist. This feature is also present in Samsung's One UI.

But Google must be admitted is still superior in home screen customization. For example, users are more free to set the size of the widget -- on iOS the choices are very limited --. However, for the lock screen feature, it seems that Android must recognize the advantages of iOS 16.

Users can set certain lock screens according to their activities, because it is integrated with the Focus feature. So the widget that is displayed will be according to the needs of its users.

Keep in mind, this is a comparison of the interface between Android and iOS. Not a comparison of performance or user experience between the two mobile operating systems with the most users in the world.

Which display do you prefer, Android or iOS?
