Meta Stops Facebook Smart Watch Development

Meta, the company behind Facebook is now reported to have stopped development of their own smartwatch, while looking into other devices worn on the wrist.

Previously, the Facebook smartwatch had been in development for a period of about two years, and also included a camera built into it. This smartwatch was previously seen to be able to be used to record pictures, as well as record movements for use with other devices-such as for the virtual-reality arena.

It is said that Meta has informed that the smartwatch is no longer planned for production and marketing. Some previous reports say it’s planned for a 2023 launch, but with this latest development, we probably won’t see it again.

The smartwatch that has been developed so far, is said to include support for applications such as Spotify, Instagram, WhatsApp and so on - in addition to supporting cellular connection via eSIM.

With these planning changes, let’s all look forward to what the next Meta plans are in the device and hardware arena.
