WhatsApp New Features Will Make User Accounts More Secure

WhatsApp continues to develop new features to improve the security and privacy of users on its platform. One of them is the double verification code feature which is currently in development.

Currently WhatsApp users who want to log in to their account on another phone will definitely be asked to enter a six -digit verification code sent to their number. According to WABetaInfo reports, this process will be enhanced with the double verification code feature.

When the feature is launched, WhatsApp users who have successfully logged into their account in the first experiment will be asked to enter a second six -digit verification code sent via SMS to the user's number.

Users will also receive a notification from WhatsApp saying that their number has been used to access the WhatsApp account on another phone along with instructions for the next steps.

"To ensure that your account is under your control, you will need to confirm another verification code," WhatsApp wrote in its notification, as quoted from WABetaInfo, Sunday (5/6/2022).

"For extra security, you'll have to wait until the timer completes before you can send the code. When you receive the code, enter it here," he continued.

WABetaInfo says this feature seems to have been developed by WhatsApp to help users prevent their accounts from being easily stolen by irresponsible parties.

Usually scammers who want to steal someone's WhatsApp account will try to log in using the victim's phone number from another cell phone, and trick the victim into providing a six -digit verification code sent to the victim's number. In fact, like other one-time passwords (OTP), WhatsApp verification codes should not be shared with anyone because it is a secret code.

Well, with this new feature scammers who want to steal users' WhatsApp accounts will be even more difficult. If the fraudster successfully obtains the first verification code, the user will receive a second message containing another verification code as well as a warning that someone else is trying to access their account.

Users who have received the warning will be aware of the threat of account theft, so they will be more careful and will not submit a second verification code to complete the account theft process.

"WhatsApp is the first instant messaging application to support this feature and we think double verification codes could be the ultimate solution to prevent accounts being stolen when two -step verification is not enabled," said WABetaInfo.

Unfortunately this feature is still in development so it is not yet available for beta testers. It is unknown when this feature will be released for all WhatsApp users.

While waiting for this feature to launch, you can increase the security of your WhatsApp account by enabling two -step verification. With this feature, you can install a six -digit PIN and each login on a new WhatsApp phone will ask you to enter this PIN.
