Recently, we have seen the phenomenon of the closest position of the Sun and Earth. Just like the Earth's orbit, the Moon also orbits the Earth in an elliptical orbit. This also makes the distance between the Moon and the Earth constantly changing from day to day.
According to what has been recorded so far, the farthest average distance between the Moon and the Earth is 405,504km and is known as the apogee. The closest average distance is around 363,396km known as perigee.
In the near future, we will be able to see the phenomenon of the closest position, which is perigee occurs on 13 July 2022, at 5.09 pm Malaysian time.
At that time, the Moon will be at its closest position, with an estimated distance of around 357,263km.
In parallel, we will see the Moon look bigger than usual, or also known to many as "Supermoon".
